Why We Brought LENS into the Rodeo World
What Is Neurofeedback and Why It Matters in the Rodeo World
Let’s be honest—“neurofeedback” isn’t exactly a word you hear in the rodeo world. Most folks don’t even know what it means, and I get it. I didn’t either.
But once I experienced what LENS Neurofeedback did for my own brain, I knew I had to bring it to the lifestyle I love most—rodeo.
A New Kind of Rodeo Support
We live in a world that celebrates grit, toughness, and pushing through. But what happens when your brain, literally, can’t keep up?
That’s where ROAM (Rodeo Optimization and Mindset) was born.
I’ve spent years in the mental health field as a Licensed Professional Counselor, and I’ve also spent years in the saddle as a rodeo athlete and rodeo mom. When I discovered LENS Neurofeedback, it brought both of those worlds together in a way I never expected.
What the Heck Is Neurofeedback?
LENS Neurofeedback (Low Energy Neurofeedback System) is like physical therapy for your brain. It gently measures your brain’s electrical activity and sends back a tiny signal that helps your nervous system self-correct.
There are no shocks, no medications, and no effort required. You don’t even feel anything during a session. But the results? They’re powerful.
It helps regulate the brain after things like stress, trauma, and concussions. Helps improve focus, mood, energy, sleep, and recovery. For athletes, that means getting your edge back. For horses, it means less tension, more responsiveness, and a calmer mind.
My Own Experience
Even after years of professional success and growth, I was dealing with brain fog, poor memory, word recall issues, and emotional burnout. Within just a few LENS sessions, I started feeling clearer, more focused, and like myself again.
That’s when it clicked—this isn’t just mental wellness, it’s brain performance. And it has a place in rodeo.
Then Came the Pony…
During my LENS training, they mentioned that this tool was also helping dogs with anxiety. Naturally, I thought: If it works on dogs, why not horses?
We had a rotten little pony on our hands—like most pony stories go. She was talented, fast, and gritty... but difficult to handle on the ground. She wouldn’t stand still, reared up, and made bridling a daily battle. It was so bad, we considered selling her.
But we figured we had nothing to lose, so we hooked her up to LENS.
Within three sessions, we saw real change. She was standing calmly. My 10-year-old could bridle her by herself. Her ground manners improved. And we didn’t have to give up a great little athlete just because her nervous system was overloaded.
Why This Matters
Rodeo athletes (and horses) push through more than most people ever see. Concussions, trauma, pressure, mental exhaustion… we carry it all. But very few people talk about how to help the brain recover.
There are therapies out there for sore muscles and skeletal alignment. But almost nothing addresses the nervous system itself. That’s what makes LENS different. And that’s what makes ROAM special.
Final Thoughts
We created ROAM to bring science-backed, performance-focused support to the rodeo community—for the rider and the ride.
If you’re struggling with clarity, pressure, or performance—or if you’ve got a horse that’s talented but tense—we want you to know there’s hope. You don’t have to just “deal with it.” You can heal, regulate, and ride stronger.
And we’re here to help you do it.
